What is Postpartum Depression?

The postpartum period is one of the biggest life changes a birthing parent can experience. While “baby blues” (short periods of sadness due to drops in hormone levels following birth) are normal and expected, postpartum depression (PPD) can last longer, appear later, and have serious negative implications for the birthing parent.

How we can help with Postpartum Depression!

All of our therapists work collaboratively with you to design a therapeutic plan that meets your needs and alleviates your distress. We believe in wellness through connection and we strive to create a positive, reparative, and affirming therapeutic relationship with each of our clients. At Peach Door Counselling, we use a holistic, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed perspective.

Postpartum depression is treated using a modality called Relational-Cultural Therapy. RCT theorizes that the centre of postpartum distress is isolation and disconnection. The work in RCT is to help the birthing parent re-establish connections with self, partner, friends, and family. By doing so, clients begin to recognize patterns of disconnection, develop connection strategies, and experience mutual empathy and growth-fostering relationships.

We help you move from aloneness into empowerment!
