What is Couples and Relationship Therapy?
Conflict and distress in relationships can feel scary, uncertain, and hurtful. Whether you and your partner are feeling disconnected, constantly in conflict, unseen, unheard, or unsupported by the other, or have experienced relationship injuries such as infidelity or betrayal, beginning couples therapy can be the first step towards healing and reconnection. If you want more, deeper connection, emotional intimacy, healthy communication, sexual satisfaction, and the feeling of true partnership, couples and relationship therapy can help!
Symptoms of disconnection in Couples/Relationships:
Chronic miscommunication
Quick to argue or engage in conflict with each other
Feeling unheard, unseen, unsupported by your partner
Feeling lonely and alone in the partnership
Spending less time with each other
Trust issues
Concurrent mental health distress such as depression or anxiety
Bristle response or annoyance with your partner
With Couples Therapy, we can help!
Our couples and relationship therapists work collaboratively with you and your partner to design a therapeutic plan that meets both of your needs and alleviates distress in the relationship. We believe in wellness through connection and we strive to create a positive, reparative, and affirming therapeutic relationship with each of our clients. At Peach Door Counselling, we use a holistic, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed perspective.
Couples Therapy treats the relationship as the couple - we are an unbiased third party who strives to see the partnership at the centre. Relationship therapy begins with an intake session in which both partners are able to freely describe their felt sense of the challenges in the relationship. From there, we use Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Relational-Cultural Therapy (RCT) and elements of attachment theory to support clear and healthy communication, deeper connection, more emotional intimacy, the rebuilding of trust, and the development of a stronger bond.
Rest assured, our couples therapists are 2SLGBTQ+ affirming and believe that love is love!
We help you move from “ships passing in the night” into a loving and strong team!
