What is Anxiety?
Anxiety is best described as an overwhelming fear and fixation on future concerns. Anxious thoughts are seemingly uncontrollable and persistent and may impact daily functioning. Worries may also arise somatically, in body tension and other physical symptoms. While the anxiety fear response is a natural, normal, and protective brain function, anxiety becomes maladaptive if it is persistent, distressing, and causes more harm than protection.
Symptoms of Anxiety:
Excessive worry, fear, and anxiety
Difficulty sleeping and fatigue
Restlessness and irritability
Impaired focus and concentration
Muscle tension and soreness
Headaches
Nausea or digestive distress
Intrusive thoughts
Withdrawal from and/or avoidance of regular activities
How we can help with Anxiety!
All of our therapists work collaboratively with you to design a therapeutic plan that meets your needs and alleviates your distress. We believe in wellness through connection and we strive to create a positive, reparative, and affirming therapeutic relationship with each of our clients. At Peach Door Counselling, we use a holistic, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed perspective.
Anxiety is treated using a blend of modalities including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based Therapy, and Somatic Experiencing. The aim of anxiety therapy is to recognize the patterns of thinking that perpetuate anxiety, challenge the fear-based narrative, commit to actionable strategies for change, and relieve tension in the body using grounding techniques.
We help you move from anxiety into calm empowerment!
