Noticing your worrying thoughts are hard to control?
Experiencing overwhelming fear, dread, concern, or worry about being a mom?
Struggling to stay present and calm with your baby?
Finding it difficult to function in life or connect with your baby?
What is Postpartum Anxiety?
Postpartum Anxiety is an overwhelming fear and fixation on your baby’s well-being. Anxious thoughts are seemingly uncontrollable and persistent and may impact daily functioning. Worries may also arise somatically, in body tension, sleeplessness, and other physical symptoms. More persistent than new-parent jitters, postpartum anxiety seems out of control and has you feeling anxious all of the time.
Symptoms of Postpartum Anxiety:
Excessive worry, fear, and anxiety about your baby’s well-being
Difficulty sleeping and fatigue
Restlessness and near-constant worry that cannot be eased
Impaired focus and concentration
Difficulty allowing others to care for your baby
Difficulty leaving your baby alone in the care of trusted others
Physical tension and soreness
Intrusive thoughts
Feelings of dread about things you worry will happen to your baby
Withdrawal from and/or avoidance of regular activities
How we can help with Postpartum Anxiety!
All of our therapists work collaboratively with you to design a therapeutic plan that meets your needs and alleviates your distress. We believe in wellness through connection and we strive to create a positive, reparative, and affirming therapeutic relationship with each of our clients. At Peach Door Counselling, we use a holistic, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed perspective.
Postpartum Anxiety is treated using a blend of modalities including Relational-Cultural Therapy (RCT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based Therapy, and Somatic Experiencing. The aim of postpartum anxiety therapy is to recognize the patterns of thinking that perpetuate anxiety, establish growth-fostering relationships to support new parents, challenge the fear-based narrative, commit to actionable strategies for change, and relieve tension in the body using grounding techniques.
We help you move from anxious-mom to calm-mom!
